Leif Strømme – A Life Dedicated to Business and IK Start
Leif Strømme, born in 1941 in Kristiansand, was a prominent business figure and a central character in the history of football club IK Start. From being an early entrepreneur to playing a key role in rescuing the club from financial crisis, his impact has been significant – both in the business world and in the club’s development.
Business Pioneer and Entrepreneurial Spirit
Strømme began working as an insurance agent at the age of 15. In 1961, at just 20 years old, he founded Strømmes Reklame AS from the attic of his family home in Sødal. Over the following decades, he built the company into a solid and respected player in the field of promotional products and corporate gifts.
Commitment to IK Start
Leif Strømme’s involvement with IK Start spanned decades and many roles. He served as a board member from 1986 to 1987, chaired the Main Board from 1989 to 1990, and was club chairman in 1991. In 2005, during the club’s 100-year anniversary, he was awarded Honorary Membership – the club’s highest recognition – given only to those who have made extraordinary contributions over time.
Loyal Supporter
Strømme has always been a visible and passionate supporter of Start. Since 2003, he has pre-booked a room at the Grand Hotel in Oslo each year in the hope of watching Start play in the Norwegian Cup Final at Ullevaal Stadium. Though the dream has yet to be fulfilled, he remains ever hopeful.
Helping Save the Club
In 1994, together with Carl Viggo Axelsen and Bjørn Johannson, he co-founded Fotball Invest AS. The company purchased the rights to Erik "Myggen" Mykland and took over large parts of Starthallen AS. This strategic move helped rescue IK Start from the brink of bankruptcy during a difficult financial period.
Legacy
Throughout his life, Leif Strømme combined sharp business acumen with a deep love for local sports and community. His name will forever be closely linked with the legacy and growth of IK Start
