Erik Geelmuyden (EN)

Erik Geelmuyden (born 1950) has played a central role in IK Start for several decades. He has been a prominent and driving force in the club – both as managing director, chairman of the board, and representative in important projects and processes.

Managing Director with Responsibility and Insight

Geelmuyden served for several years as managing director of IK Start, where he was responsible for the club's day-to-day operations and administration. During a period marked by development and restructuring, he helped professionalize the club's organization and ensure solid structures in its work.

Chairman During a Critical Phase

In 2010, he was elected chairman of the club. He took on the role during a time of both sporting ambition and financial challenges. Geelmuyden led the club through a difficult period, including the follow-up after the construction of Sør Arena.

Sør Arena – From Idea to Reality

One of Geelmuyden’s most visible contributions was in the realization of Sør Arena, the club’s stadium which opened in 2007. As a coordinator and liaison between various stakeholders, he was a key figure in bringing the project to completion. He also helped strengthen the interaction between the club's sporting and administrative sides during the process.

Referee in Both Football and Handball

In addition to his work in club management, Erik Geelmuyden has also been active as a referee in both football and handball.

Stepping Down as Chairman

In October 2011, he chose to step down from his position as chairman due to health reasons. His departure marked the end of a demanding and important period in the club’s history – a time he carried with great sense of responsibility.

In 2012, he was awarded the club’s gold badge, and in 2024, he was named an honorary member of IK Start – the highest honor the club can bestow. These recognitions are a clear expression of gratitude for his long-standing effort and dedication.
